Pakuwon Group Launches #MulaiDariSini Campaign for Waste Management in Pakuwon Malls, Jakarta

Jakarta, June 4, 2025 - In commemoration of World Environment Day, Pakuwon Group Jakarta launched the #MulaiDariSini campaign, a cross-country collaborative initiative aimed at improving waste management from source in shopping center areas. This campaign is a collaboration between Pakuwon Group, Upbox Environmental Solutions, Jangjo Indonesia, and KEITI (Korean Environment Institute Indonesia), and supported by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Environmental Agency.
This campaign was launched simultaneously in three large superblocks owned by Pakuwon in Jakarta: Kota Kasablanka, Gandaria City, and Plaza Blok M, as a concrete step in implementing DKI Jakarta Governor Regulation No. 102 of 2021 concerning the obligation to independently manage waste in commercial areas and public facilities.
The #MulaiDariSini campaign conveys a strong message that waste management cannot be postponed: "Starting from here, waste is no longer dumped carelessly or ends up in landfills, but is processed properly."
“We believe that environmental management is part of our responsibility as a developer. Through the #MulaiDariSini campaign, we want to invite all tenants and mall visitors to start a change together from small steps that have a big impact,” said A. Stefanus Ridwan Suhendra, President Director of Pakuwon Group.
Reco Korea is a South Korean company that is most famous for waste collection and transportation and has experience in a modern waste transportation system with a digital platform to increase transparency and trace the entire waste management process. This project is their first international collaboration in Indonesia, by collaborating with Pakuwon Group as the area management partner and Jangjo as the waste processing partner.
“In South Korea, the culture of waste sorting does not happen overnight. Education and a consistent system are the keys. We are happy to be part of this transition process in Indonesia. We are proud to be able to start this step with Pakuwon and Jangjo,” said Kim Keunho, CEO of Reco Korea, the headquarters for PT Upbox Environmental Solution in Indonesia.
As a field implementer, Jangjo Indonesia carries out the process of sorting, recycling, and converting waste into RDF in an integrated manner through their technology system. This campaign is also part of a larger movement that Jangjo has initiated, namely Junk Revolution — an open invitation for all levels of society, business actors, and the government to stop seeing waste as a problem, and start seeing it as an opportunity for transformation.
"#MulaiDariSini is not just a slogan, but part of the big Junk Revolutions movement that we are echoing. We believe that a revolution in waste management can only happen if all parties move together from the smallest point: from the area, from the mall, from us," said Joe Hansen, President Director of PT Jangjo Teknologi Indonesia. "
KEITI (Korean Environment Institute Indonesia), as an institution under the Korean Ministry of Environment, plays an important role in providing educational materials and policy exchanges.
"We believe that international collaborations like this will pave the way for behavioral change and the adoption of environmental technology. KEITI will continue to support initiatives that promote sustainability across borders,” said Kang Min Soo, Head of KEITI Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the Environmental Agency (DLH) views this collaboration as a real implementation of the regulations that have been planned. Based on DLH data, DKI Jakarta produces more than 7,500 tons of waste per day, and commercial areas and superblocks are significant contributors due to high economic activity and visits.
DKI Jakarta Gubernatorial Regulation No. 102 of 2021 was issued in response to the high waste generation, by requiring area managers to sort and process waste independently. Unfortunately, until now the level of compliance of the area with the regulation is still low. Therefore, campaigns such as #MulaiDariSini are expected to be examples that not only comply with regulations, but also encourage systemic and cultural changes in urban communities.
